Sunday I went to Monchique!

October 7, 2015

I had the opportunity to taste some flavors of “Rota do Petisco”, because this is the first year that this village is involved and the expectations were high.
I walked through the streets of Monchique, feeling in my face the fresh breeze that it’s common in this area until arrive Casa Maio.
This establishment with a rustic look, brought me, again, a sense of what is a good Bifana.
They showed me a fluffy and fresh bread, stuffed inside with thin slices of pork, previously marinated, adding an intense flavor to that delicacy.
For you get the idea, I love spicy, but Bifana was so good that I ended up not putting a single drop.
Well served, I continued my journey to the next point that interest me, Restaurant A Charrete.
Here I reminded asleep flavors in my memory! They introduced me to a simple but complete snack, which before was poor and today is a luxury to be tasted. It is pão com conduto.
Formerly the conduit was what was eaten with the bread, so if I put lard on bread was pão com conduto and if it were bread with meat, it was pão com conduto as well.
But let us continue with Rota do Petisco, now in A Carruagem Restaurant: This is a kebab with rice blood sausage (molhe), smoked sausage (chouriça) and black sausage (morcela). Adding to these delights they complete the dish with fine spicy olives and spiced meat in lard (piques na banha).
Convinced?! I was, but even like that I didn’t finished my search of good snacks in Monchique.
I completed the day in the restaurant Fonte dos Chorões, were I could not leave without trying the famous  pork cheek (Bochechinha de Porco à Monchique).
I had to wait a while, because it’s a particular dish that it’s cooked slowly. Anyway deserved the wait because wan in flavor, as well as the quality of meat texture, that fell apart in my taste buds.
And so this was my last Sunday in this beautiful villa of Monchique.

Não há nada mais reconfortante do que uma terra com cheiro a natureza e comidas que aquecem o coração.
